Blackberry Desktop Manager 5.01 does not show IP Modem option

Date Added November 27, 2009 | Print | Show/Hide images

To enable the IP Modem option

  1. Make sure the Blackberry Desktop Manager and the Blackberry have been connected already
  2. Close the Blackberry Desktop Manager
  3. Windows Vista / 7 -  On the computer go to C:\Program Data\Research In Motion\Blackberry\
Windows XP - On the computer go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Research In Motion\Blackberry
Note If you do not see Program Data (Vista/7) or Application Data (XP) then you must Show Hidden Files and Folders first. See directions below.
  4. Open the ip_modem_configuration.xml file using wordpad
  5. Click Edit Find... and type in your carrier (ie: T-Mobile, AT&T)
  6. Note For instances such as AT&T, it must be & instead of &. Also, you may need to find the original carrier of the Blackberry and enable that carrier.
  7. Change enabled="false" to enabled="true"

  8. Save the file
  9. Open the Blackberry Desktop Manager and plug in the Blackberry
  10. The IP Modem option should now appear

To Show Hidden Files and Folder

  1. Go to Start Control Panel
  2. Windows XP - Click Switch to classic view on the left panel
Windows Vista - Click Classic View on the left panel
Windows 7 - Click All Control Panel Items icon
  3. Open the Folder Options icon
  4. Click the View tab
  5. Find Show Hidden Files and Folders in the list box and place the dot next to it
  6. Click Apply then Ok

Also, if you are currently in a folder, click Organize Folder Options (Vista) or Tools Folder Options (XP) to get to the Folder Options.

I have accomplished everything up to the last step where you need to save. It says access is denied. I'm not sure why but I've never had this problem before when trying to save something.

Weird...try this, right click the text file and select Properties. In the properties at the bottom you should see an option that says "Read Only". If thats checked, uncheck it. Then you should be able to save it. :D

I still get the same error message as Kam.

Access to C:\PrgramData\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\ip_modem_configuration.xml was denied.

File is not set as Read Only File. Still can't save.

Had to go to security tab and edit users to allow full control

Hi there - on my PC (after successfully installing 501) there appears to be no ip_modem_configuration.xml file in that directory (yes - I'm seeing all hidden files!)...same doing a complete search of C drive...any ideas? or can someone email it to me.
Many thanks in advance!
Regards
Austyn

I notice that the fix isn't permanent and can stop working after restart as well...odd.

@Austyn
Does it have the IP Modem function in the software? Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling the desktop manager cuz I can't think of any other reason for it not to be there.

It doesn't work. The modem function doesn't show up. The modifications were made, successfully saved, and still no modem function shows up.

I get the option but cannot get it to connect. I get the error with "...The PPP link control protocol was terminated...". I'm on O2 using the standard settings as configured by DTM.

The IP Phone shows up right after I install the desk top 5.0.1 and then goes away. Then when I look for ip_modem_configuration.xml I can not find it. I have set the system Win 7 to show hidden files but the file is no where to be found? Anybody has any idea?
