Error 720 when connecting using a Phone as a Modem
Error 720 can be an issue with the Dial-up Connection. Simply delete and recreate the connection to fix it...otherwise it could be an issue with the SIM card or device.
Basic Troubleshooting - Always complete these steps prior to Advanced Troubleshooting
- Pull the battery out of the phone while it is disconnected from the computer and charger
- Restart the computer
- Verify the Phone is capable of browsing the internet on the phone
Note If the phone is unable to browse itself, contact your wireless provider. - Verify the connection and settings are correct by following the Connection Setup again to check the settings
- Test the connection again
Advanced Troubleshooting
Delete and re-create the Dial-up Connections:
- On the computer go to
- Windows XP - Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
- Windows Vista - Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections
- Windows 7 - Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings
- Right click the Dial-up Connection then select Delete
- Follow the Connection Setup again to re-create the Dialup Connection
- Test again after re-creating the connection.
Try a different SIM card:
- Try simply pulling the SIM card out and putting in back in, then test again
- Try contacting the Carrier to verify everything on the account and system is setup correctly
- If still having an issue try replacing the SIM card.
- A defective SIM card can provide issues with connection staying connected or Error 720.
Master Reset the device:
- Perform a Backup of the data on the phone.
- Visit the Tmoatt homepage and click the Manufacturer and Phone for specific directions on performing a Master Reset on the phone if available or find the directions in the User Manual.
Test on a different computer:
- Test the phone on a different computer to verify whether the phone is defective or the computer.
- If the phone works on a different computer, your computer may need to be serviced by a computer specialist.
- If the phone does not work on a different computer, the USB cord may be defective or the USB port on the device.
