Error 732 when connecting using a Phone as a Modem
Error 732 - Your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocols.
Basic Troubleshooting - Always complete these steps prior to Advanced Troubleshooting
- Pull the battery out of the phone while it is disconnected from the computer and charger
- Restart the computer
- Verify the Phone is capable of browsing the internet on the phone
Note If the phone is unable to browse itself, contact your wireless provider. - Verify the connection and settings are correct by following the Connection Setup again to check the settings
- Test the connection again
Advanced Troubleshooting
Modify PPP Settings:
- On the computer go to
- Windows XP - Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
- Windows Vista - Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections
- Windows 7 - Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings
- Right click the Dial-up Connection then select Options
- Windows XP
- Click the Networking tab
- Click the Settings button at the top
- Windows Vista / 7
- Click the Options tab
- Click the PPP Settings button
- Uncheck all three check-boxes
- Enable LCP Extensions
- Enable Software compression
- Negotiate Multi-link for Single-link connections
- Click OK
- Click OK again
- Test the connection if a change is made.
Delete and re-create the Dial-up Connection:
- On the computer go to
- Windows XP - Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
- Windows Vista - Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections
- Windows 7 - Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings
- Right click the Dial-up Connection then select Delete
- Follow the original Connection Setup directions to recreate the Dial-up connection
Test on a different computer:
- Test the phone on a different computer to verify whether the phone is the issue or the computer.
- If the phone works on a different computer, your computer may need to be serviced by a computer specialist.
- If the phone does not work on another computer and gives the same error, a master reset may be neccessary.
