Error 720 when connecting using a Phone as a Modem


Error 720 can be an issue with the Dial-up Connection. Simply delete and recreate the connection to fix it...otherwise it could be an issue with the SIM card or device.

 

Basic Troubleshooting - Always complete these steps prior to Advanced Troubleshooting

  1. Pull the battery out of the phone while it is disconnected from the computer and charger
  2. Restart the computer
  3. Verify the Phone is capable of browsing the internet on the phone
    Note If the phone is unable to browse itself, contact your wireless provider.
  4. Verify the connection and settings are correct by following the Connection Setup again to check the settings
  5. Test the connection again

 

Advanced Troubleshooting

Delete and re-create the Dial-up Connections:

  1. On the computer go to
  2. Right click the Dial-up Connection then select Delete
  3. Follow the Connection Setup again to re-create the Dialup Connection
  4. Test again after re-creating the connection.

Try a different SIM card:

  1. Try simply pulling the SIM card out and putting in back in, then test again
  2. Try contacting the Carrier to verify everything on the account and system is setup correctly
  3. If still having an issue try replacing the SIM card.
  4. A defective SIM card can provide issues with connection staying connected or Error 720.
